Universities in the Mekong Delta have prepared for developing human resources to supply the semiconductor industry...

As emerging technologies (AI, IoT, Big Data, etc.) experience rapid growth, universities in the Mekong Delta have taken "long-term" steps in developing the workforce for the electronics and semiconductor industry.

Delegates tour microchip technology products

Grasping the trend of science and technology in 2024, Can Tho University has introduced a new major in Semiconductor Design under its Computer Engineering program with a duration of 4.5 years. Additionally, Vinh Long University of Technology Education, Tra Vinh University, and Nam Can Tho University have also launched new semiconductor technology programs. These initiatives aim to train a skilled workforce in electronics and semiconductor technology for the Mekong Delta region in particular and the whole country in general.

In addition to Can Tho University, several other universities in the Mekong Delta region currently offer training in electronics, such as Vinh Long University of Technology Education, Tra Vinh University, Can Tho University of Technology, Cuu Long University, and Tay Do University. These institutions play a crucial role in supporting the development of the microchip industry by providing a skilled workforce.

Products from microchip technology are applied in many technologies in life and socio-economic development.

Regarding the development of skilled professionals for the semiconductor industry, Pro. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Phuong, Chairman of the Council of Can Tho University, said in "Human Resources Development Plan for the Semiconductor Industry by 2030” chaired by the Ministry of Planning and Investment, in coordination with the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Information and Communications and the Ministry of Education and Training to research and develop. In particular, it is expected to train about 30,000 - 50,000 engineers and experts for the semiconductor industry. Can Tho University is honored to be one of 18 universities tasked with meeting the demand for microelectronics engineering graduates. This responsibility presents both opportunities and challenges for the institution.

Semiconductor Design Emerges as Epicenter of Scientific and Technological Advancements

Accordingly, Can Tho University's mission is to be a center for training, scientific research, innovation, and technology transfer to serve the community; is a dynamic, reliable and cooperative bridge domestically and internationally, making an important contribution to the socio-economic development of the Mekong Delta and the whole country. Currently, Can Tho University has a human resource of nearly 2,000 officials and lecturers, including nearly 1,200 lecturers with doctoral degrees, accounting for 55%, professors and associate professors accounting for 17%, and 45 thousand students and trainees. Multi-disciplinary and specialized training, facilities are increasingly upgraded to modernity.

According to statistics published by the Vietnam Microchip Community in July 2023, Can Tho University is in the Top 5 universities providing human resources working in the field of semiconductor in Vietnam", Dr. Luong Vinh Quoc Danh said.
