Can Tho city has just entered into a cooperation agreement to prepare well-trained professionals in electronics and semiconductors in Can Tho city and the Mekong Delta.
The Department of Science and Technology (DST) of Can Tho City, Can Tho University's School of Engineering, Can Tho University of Technology and Engineering, and Sun Edu International Education Joint Stock Company entered into a cooperation agreement on training human resources for the electronics and semiconductor industry on March 17.
The signing ceremony for the cooperation in training human resources for the electronics and semiconductor industry in Can Tho took place on March 17.
The signing of the cooperation agreement on training human resources for the electronics and semiconductor industry among the units is of special significance; it lays the foundation, creates a spread, and prepares high-quality human resources in electronics and semiconductors for Can Tho City and the Mekong Delta.
According to the agreement, the parties will organize effective training programs, fostering the development and expansion of well-trained professionals in semiconductors to meet the needs of investors and businesses in this field. They will also organize specialized training courses for officials, lecturers, and students in Can Tho City and the Mekong Delta.
Discussing the cooperative activities, Mr. Ngô Anh Tín, Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Can Tho City, stated: Following the Prime Minister’s decision 1519/QĐ-TTg, which outlines Can Tho City’s plan for 2021-2030 with a vision to 2050, the city has been designated as a high-tech zone to attract investors in science and technology, including potential major investors. Through this, Can Tho City is directed to train and develop high-quality human resources to serve various enterprises, especially in preparation for the VSIP Can Tho industrial park and several partners investing in the city.
The training cooperation serves the high-tech industry’s direction and planning. “With the cooperation of Can Tho University and Can Tho University of Technology and Engineering, this is a very important foundation for those who are qualified, being trained in specialized techniques in the field of semiconductor design. At the same time, this is an opportunity to be trained and gain access to knowledge with developed countries. This cooperation in training human resources contributes to the city’s development in the future,” said the Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Can Tho City.
According to Mr. Tín, in 2024, businesses in the Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Zone and several domestic technology companies are looking to recruit 400 - 500 highly skilled professionals in the high-tech industry, specifically in the field of semiconductors. Following the cooperation agreement, the Department of Science, Technology and Investment of Can Tho City has received recruitment inquiries for all participants of the first training course (comprising 40 students) from these technology enterprises.
According to technology experts, semiconductors are considered the foundation of modern computing and play an important role as the world enters a new technological era. Currently, there is a shortage of human resources serving the development of semiconductor design, which does not meet market demand. However, training human resources for this sector is quite expensive and requires good infrastructure, standard software, and specialized teaching.
According to Minister of Science and Technology Huỳnh Thành Đạt, Vietnam is assessed as a country with many opportunities and the necessary factors to develop the semiconductor industry ecosystem, with the potential to enhance its position in the global semiconductor supply chain; it has been increasingly attracting many large corporations in the semiconductor industry from developed countries… To date, Vietnam has attracted over 40 enterprises from developed countries such as the USA, South Korea, Japan, and the Netherlands… along with many domestic companies like Viettel, FPT, VNChip… to participate in this market.
In this context, the Minister of Science and Technology believes that through cooperation in human resource development for the semiconductor industry, high-quality personnel will be trained, enhancing competitive capacity and attracting investment capital for Can Tho City as well as the Southwest region.
